| I love this river & her strange Louisiana land - |
| She's the morning queen of diamonds |
| Tranquil flowers in her hand. |
|
| Born to carry kings along the cottonwood trail, |
| Her dreams somehow diminished |
| Though her glory never paled. |
|
|
|
|
| As tarnished silver, her glow is hidden well, |
| Yet her still brown waters |
| Hold us all in her spell. |
|
| She's not the lusty ocean, no, not at all, |
| & should I, careless, leave her, |
| Lesser values will have called. |
